RAPIDS , IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (IIAC) announced today its All-Academic Team for
the Fall 2008 season. Two hundred forty-eight student-athletes
from the Conference’s eight fall sports met the requirements
for recognition.
To
be eligible for IIAC All-Academic Team honors a student-athlete
must compete at the varsity level, be at least a sophomore in
academic standing and attain a 3.5 or better grade point average
(on a 4.0 scale).
The
Fall 2008 All-Academic Team is comprised of 82 seniors, 83 juniors
and 83 sophomores. Luther College has a Conference-high 42 student-athletes
on the Team followed by Coe College (34 student-athletes), Central
College (32 student-athletes), Simpson College (31 student-athletes),
Wartburg College (30 student-athletes), Buena Vista University
and University of Dubuque (21 student-athletes each), Cornell
College (19 student-athletes), and Loras College (18 student-athletes).
Sixty-nine
of the student-athletes are cross country runners, 46 women
and 23 men. Forty-seven of the honorees are soccer players,
26 women and 21 men. Rounding out the All-Academic Team are
55 football players, 37 volleyball players, 28 women’s
tennis players and 12 women’s golfers.
