PELLA,
IOWA . . . Bryan Mours has resigned
as men’s and women’s tennis coach at Central College.
Mours leaves for a position at another school after spending
one season with the Dutch men’s program and two with the
women’s squad. He piloted the Central men to a 13-13 dual
mark and a third-place Iowa Conference finish. The Central women
placed third in the league both years as well and compiled a
21-12-1 dual record in two seasons. Four Central women’s
players earned all-conference recognition this fall and Mours
shared league coach of the year honors with Coe College’s
Eric Rodgers.
“We’re
prepared to move forward on finding a new leader,” said
athletics director Al Dorenkamp. “Central
tennis has much to offer in terms of new facilities and great
young people in the program.”
A new Mondo surface is being installed in H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse
which will provide four indoor courts and space for a fifth
court. Installation is slated to be completed Jan. 15, just
prior to the students’ return to campus following Christmas
break. A new surface was also installed last summer on Central’s
six outdoor courts.
Dorenkamp said it is uncertain whether the college will start
an immediate search for a replacement or hire an interim head
coach for the spring season. The Central men’s squad opens
Jan. 31 with a triangular meet in Decorah against Luther College
and Macalester College (Minn.). Central makes its first home
appearance on its new indoor courts Feb. 21.
