PELLA, IOWA . . . After 12 highly successful seasons, Charlie Estabrook has resigned as Central College men’s golf coach.

Estabrook piloted Central to seven Iowa Conference championships, including the 2009 crown last spring, and was a five-time league coach of the year. He also guided Central to NCAA Division III tournament appearances in seven of the past nine seasons, placing in the top 10 twice. The Dutch were 19th in last year’s NCAA national tourney in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Central golfers received Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars Team honors 19 times during Estabrook’s tenure. Three players received all-America recognition.

A Davenport native, Estabrook also served as baseball coach at Pella Christian High School for three seasons and was softball coach at Pella High School for five years.

Central has captured 27 conference men’s golf titles overall, including 23 in the past 29 years. The Dutch have made 28 NCAA national tournament appearances since 1976, finishing in the top 10 11 times.

Athletics director Al Dorenkamp said the college has begun searching for a replacement and that it’s possible an interim coach could be hired for the spring season. The Dutch are tentatively scheduled to open the 2010 campaign by playing host to the Dutch Desert Shootout March 17 in Phoenix, Ariz.

"We’re moving forward to find an outstanding leader for our men’s golf program," Dorenkamp said. "We want to maintain and build on the strong tradition Central’s teams have established for many years."
