PELLA . . . After piloting the Central College women’s golf team to its highest Iowa Conference finish in 16 years, Jodee Schaben has resigned as coach.

Schaben led the Dutch for six seasons and was named the league coach of the year last fall after sharing the honor in 2008. Central placed second in the conference tourney and sophomore Sarah Paulson captured her second straight league individual championship. Central’s 305 in the tournament’s second round at the Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls set a new conference team record. The Dutch also established a new school record for team season scoring, averaging 333.2.

Under Schaben, Central was represented at the NCAA Division III tournament for the first time last May as Paulson tied for sixth nationally at the 72-hole meet in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

A graduate of the Univ. of Wis.-Stevens Point, Schaben was a four-year golf letterwinner and a team captain for the Pointers. She later earned a master’s degree in health and human performance and a doctoral degree in health promotion at Iowa State Univ. Schaben also taught in Central’s exercise science department.

Athletics director Al Dorenkamp said the search has begun for a replacement.

"We’re eager to find someone who can help our student-athletes continue to improve and make the Central’s women’s golf program a consistent contender on both the conference and national levels,” he said.
