GARY BOEYINK TO SERVE AS
INTERIM WOMEN'S GOLF COACH AT CENTRAL

PELLA, IOWA . . . Veteran coach Gary Boeyink, who helped launch the women’s athletics program at Central College in 1973, is serving as interim women’s golf for the 2010 spring season.

The Dutch, who placed second at the Iowa Conference tournament last fall, play a limited spring schedule, starting with the Dutch Desert Shootout at Chandler, Ariz. March 17.

Boeyink was the head women’s basketball coach for 28 seasons, retiring in 2001 before returning as an assistant three years ago. He leads the Central junior varsity program and is a varsity assistant. He compiled a 399-287 record as head coach and guided Central to the 1993 NCAA Division III championship. Under Boeyink, Central won or shared six Iowa Conference women’s basketball titles while earning five NCAA tournament berths.

Boeyink also spent nine seasons as Central’s head softball coach, serving in 1975 and from 1977-84.

Boeyink replaces Jodee Schaben, who resigned as women’s golf coach in January after six seasons.

Athletics director Al Dorenkamp expects to have a full-time replacement named by late spring.
