MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM ANNOUNCED
CENTRAL'S LEY NAMED MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
CENTRAL'S BOSCHEE NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . .  The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Central College senior guard Miguel Ley (San Antonio, Texas/Judson) has been named the 2009-10 IIAC Men’s Basketball Most Valuable Player and Central College head coach Mike Boschee has been named the 2009-10 IIAC Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year.

Ley averaged 18.2 points, 5.0 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.7 steals in 27 contest heading into the NCAA Tournament, leading Central in scoring 12 times. He ranked second in the league in assists, third in scoring and steals, and fourth in free-throw percentage (80.5 percent). Ley also averaged 1.74 3-pointers per game, ranking eighth in the league, and hit at a 36.2 percent clip from behind the arc.

In 16 Conference games, Ley averaged 17.6 points, 4.44 assists, 1.63 steals, and 1.63 3-pointers per game. He shot 77.4 percent from the free-throw line and 33.8 percent from 3-point range. Ley ranked third in scoring and assists, tied for fourth in steals, and seventh in free-throw percentage. Ley is the fifth Central player to be named IIAC Most Valuable Player, totaling six honors, and the first since Nate Hart in 1992.

Boschee led Central to a 14-2 Conference mark and the program’s first Iowa Conference title since 1995. It is Central’s first outright IIAC title since 1985. The Dutch enter their ninth NCAA Division III Tournament overall, a record among Iowa Conference schools, with a 23-4 record after capturing the school’s first league tournament title. The 23 wins is a school record. In conference games, Central led the IIAC in blocks (4.56 blocks/game), steals, (8.94 steals/game), scoring margin (+7.8), field-goal percentage defense (39.4 percent), and 3-point field goal percentage defense (30.5 percent), and ranked third in scoring offense (71.7 points/game) and scoring defense (63.9 points/game). This is the first time Boschee has been named IIAC Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year.

The IIAC also announced today the 2009-10 Men’s Basketball All-Conference Team. The 15-member Team includes five repeat All-Conference performers including Ley and Dunlavy, who become the 63rd and 64th three-time All-Conference picks. All three of Dunlavy’s selections were to the First Team. Cornell’s Chris Handke, Dubuque’s Taylor Blum, and Wartburg’s Kelly McCarville were each named All-Iowa Conference for the second time. League champion Central and Cornell each had three players selected, while Buena Vista, Dubuque, Loras, and Wartburg all had two players selected. Simpson picked up the final All-Conference selection.
