PELLA, IOWA . . . Maryville Univ. (Mo.) women's golf coach Chad Green has been named the new leader of Central College's tradition-rich men's golf program.

Green replaces Charlie Estabrook as Central's head coach. Estabrook resigned in January following 12 highly successful seasons.

A St. Louis-area native, Green also serves as director of instruction at the Country Club of Sugar Creek in High Ridge, Mo. He has also assisted with the men's golf program at Maryville, an NCAA Division II institution in St. Louis, during his two years at the school.

Green previously served as an assistant golf professional at the Cedar Rapids Country Club and the Forest Highlands Golf Club in Flagstaff, Ariz., holding the latter position while he was competing on the Pepsi Golf Tour. He is a Clarke College graduate and was a three-time first-team all-Northern Iowa-Illinois Conference honoree (2004-05-06).  He also served as a student assistant coach for the Clarke women’s golf squad for one year.

Prior to joining the Maryville staff he was head golf coach at Southwestern High School in Hazel Green, Wis. in 2008.

"We are very excited that Chad will be leading our program,” said athletics director Al Dorenkamp. "He is committed to Division III golf and to developing student-athletes. He has demonstrated that he is an aggressive recruiter who will work hard to make Central successful in the Iowa Conference and at the national level."

Green said he is already begun the transition to Central.

"I'm excited because of the great tradition Central College has, not only in golf but in the whole athletics department,” he said. “I’m happy and honored to be a part of the Central College program and want to build on the tradition the golf team has there.

"I will arrive in July and hit the recruiting trail hard. There are a lot of good golfers in Iowa who we want to be a part of Central College golf."

The Dutch have captured 27 Iowa Conference men’s golf championships, including 26 in the past 34 years and two in the past three seasons. Central has made 28 NCAA Division III tournament appearances with 11 top-10 national team finishes. The college has an on-campus golf practice facility with a driving range, practice bunker and two putting greens. The team’s home course, the par-72 Bos Landen Golf Club, is just two miles from campus and received a four-star rating from Golf Digest.
