THREE FROM IIAC EARN
USTFCCCA REGION HONORS

NEW ORLEANS . . . The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Monday evening the winners of USTFCCCA Region Athletes and Coaches of the Year honors for the 2010 Outdoor Track & Field season in Division III as voted by the division’s coaches.

Separate categories are assigned to track athletes and field athletes as well as head coaches and assistant coaches.

Most of these athletes and coaches will participate in the NCAA Division III Championships held on the campus of Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, beginning Thursday.

Central Region Men’s Field Athlete of the Year
Ethan Miller – Central (Iowa)
A sophomore from Seymour, Iowa, Miller recorded an automatic qualifying mark in the decathlon this season, along with provisional qualifying marks in the high jump and long jump. He ranks fourth in NCAA Division III in the decathlon headed in this weekend’s championships. Miller won the pole vault and long jump, finished third in the decathlon and high jump, and finished fourth in the triple jump to be named the Co-MVP at the 2010 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships.

Central Region Women’s Head Coach of the Year
Marcus Newsom – Wartburg
Newsom has the No. 1-nationally ranked squad heading into the NCAA Championships with a championship-best 18 entries, 10 of which comes in the sprint and hurdle events.

Central Region Men’s Assistant Coach of the Year
Guy Mosher – Central (Iowa)
Mosher is in his 19th year with Central (Iowa) and is the coach in the sprint, jumps, and combined event areas. Central qualified two decathletes for the NCAA Championships. Mosher also qualified two athletes in the jumps and both 4×100 and 4×400 relays for the national meet. Mosher’s combined athletes compiled 15 points in Central’s run for the IIAC title.
