DECORAH, IOWA . . . After nine years as head coach of the Luther College men’s and women’s swimming and diving program, Lance Huber has announced his resignation and has accepted the position as men’s and women’s swimming coach at Allegheny College, Meadville, Penn.

"I am so thankful for the past nine years here at Luther,” stated Huber. “It has been an honor to coach all the student-athletes of the Luther College swimming and diving program. I want to thank Joe Thompson and President Rick Torgerson and the athletic department for the amazing support during my tenure at Luther.  My family will miss everyone, yet we are very excited for the opportunity that lies ahead. I wish nothing but the best for everyone at Luther College."

During his nine years, Huber’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams rewrote the Luther College record books.

The men posted a dual meet record of 45-12, won seven Iowa Conference titles and five Liberal Arts Invitational championships. He also coached 17 honorable mention All-Americans and one All-American.

The women tallied a record of 41-20, won six Iowa Conference titles and five Liberal Arts Championships titles. Five women earned All-America honors and five earned honorable mention All-America honors.

"We appreciate the commitment, dedication, and positive mentoring Lance has provided these past nine years," commented Joe Thompson, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. "The swimming teams have had tremendous success under Lance's leadership, and while we are sad to see him leave Luther College, we wish him nothing but success and happiness in the future. "

Thompson stated that the search for a new swimming coach will begin immediately.

Luther College is a four-year liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The Norse compete in 10 men's and nine women's intercollegiate sports.

As a member of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) since 1922, the men have won 150 conference championships. In 1982 the IIAC expanded its championship sponsorship to include women's sports. During this time span, the women have won 59 team titles. Combined, the Norse have captured an unprecedented 209 IIAC titles.
