CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . With the school’s second consecutive indoor national title and a top-four finish outdoors at the 2010 NCAA Division III track and field Championships and a top-20 finish at the 2009 NCAA Division cross country Championships in tow, Wartburg College finished fourth in the final standings for the 2009-10 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s Division III Deb Vercauteren Program of the Year award.
The Knights’ 21 points left them just three points shy of second place. Wisconsin-Oshkosh earned Program of the Year honors after finishing second at both the indoor and outdoor track and field championships and 13th at cross country. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (18 points) and Calvin College (19 points) finished just ahead of Wartburg, the 2008-09 award winner.
Central College (116.5 points) also made the list, ranking 12th of the 14 teams to place at all three championships. The Dutch finished 19th at the cross country championships, tied for 46th place in indoor track & field, and tied for 49th in outdoor track & field.
