FIVE IIAC SCHOOLS IN TOP 100
OF FINAL 2009-10 LEARFIELD SPORTS
DIRECTORS' CUP STANDINGS

CLEVELAND, OHIO . . . All nine Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) are represented in the final 2009-10 Learfield Sports Division III Directors’ Cup standings released today, led by Iowa Conference All-Sports Champion Wartburg College.

Wartburg, which ranked 32nd with 438.50 points, ended the 2009-10 year with a national championship in indoor women’s track and field to go along with team national tournament/meet appearances in women’s cross country, men’s indoor and outdoor track and field, women’s outdoor track and field, men’s soccer, wrestling, and women’s golf.

Luther, with top-10 finishes in wrestling and softball and NCAA tournament appearances in men's swimming & diving, men's and women's tennis, and women's outdoor track & field, finished 41st with 352.50 points.

Central, with national tournament/meet appearances in women's cross country, football, men's basketball, men's indoor & outdoor track, women's indoor & outdoor track & field, softball, and men's golf, scored 332.75 to place 44th.

Powered by Iowa Conference championship teams in volleyball, women's basketball, and softball, Simpson finished in 73rd place with 237.5 points. The Storm also picked up points in women's indoor and outdoor track & field.

Coe finished in 78th place with 227 points behind a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships as well as a drive to the round of 16 in football. The Kohawks also picked up points with top-30 finishes in both women's indoor and outdoor track & field.

Buena Vista placed 134th with 145 points after NCAA appearances in wrestling, baseball, women's indoor and outdoor track & field.

Dubuque finished in a tie for 141st place with 136.25 points behind an NCAA team appearance in women's soccer and an eighth place finish in wrestling. The Spartans also scored points in men's indoor and outdoor track & field and women's outdoor track & field.

Loras received 123.5 points and placed 156th after advancing to the round of 16 in men's soccer and scoring team points in women's indoor and outdoor track & field.

Cornell placed 210th with 80.25 points following a 12th place finish in wrestling and NCAA meet appearances in men's indoor and outdoor track & field.

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between NACDA and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's national championship finish in up to 18 sports -- nine women's and nine men's. Each national champion receives 100 points.

Williams College of Massachusetts, winning its 12th consecutive Division III Directors’ Cup championship, claimed the top spot with 1292.25 points. Amherst College of Massachusetts (905.75) and Washington University in St. Louis (858.50) rounded out the top three.
