MOUNT VERNON, IOWA . . .Cornell College has named Brock Worley as its new head men's and women's golf coach, Rams Director of Athletics John Cochrane announced Wednesday.

Worley, a native of Cedar Rapids, was a two-year standout on Cornell's men's golf team from 2003-05. He is the Rams' only male golfer to earn all-Iowa Conference honors, taking seventh in 2004.

"I jumped at this job because of my familiarity with Cornell," said Worley, a 2003 graduate of Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School. "I know what it takes to play golf at the college level and how to manage time here to be a good student. I want to bring energy to this program. I hope my youthfulness and exuberance can help attract kids from this area and from out."

Worley takes over for Dave Roe, who stepped down due to family and professional commitments. Roe had coached the men's and women's teams since fall 2008.

"Dave Roe did a tremendous job of establishing a level of commitment and set of expectations for our program, that I'm confident Coach Worley will be able to continue to build upon," Cochrane said.

Worley ranks among Cornell's all-time leaders for low rounds over 18 and 36 holes. As a sophomore, he led the 2005 Rams to their best IIAC team finish.

After two years at Cornell, Worley moved on to the University of Iowa and earned a bachelor's degree in sociology in December 2007.

Worley has played on various professional golf mini-tours since March 2008. He had a three-month stint on the Gateway Tour in West Palm Beach, Fla., and has experience playing in Nationwide and PGA Tour Qualifiers. Worley won the Cedar Rapids City Amateur Championship in 2006 and has two other top-10 finishes in that event. He was a member of the 2006 Cedar Rapids Ryder Cup Team.

"Brock Worley brings a genuine passion for Cornell College to our golf program," Cochrane said. "I'm thrilled that he will be sharing his considerable talents and knowledge of the game with our student-athletes. Brock brings a level of enthusiasm and a familiarity with junior golf to the recruiting process that will reap tremendous dividends for our program."

In high school, Worley earned all-conference honors his senior season and was a member of Kennedy's state tournament golf team as a freshman. He carded a top-20 finish in the PGA Tour Series Tournament as a high school junior. Worley has worked with Kennedy's golf team in multiple facets the past couple years.

The Cornell men's team begins its traditional spring season March 12-13 at the Millikin Opener in Pana, Ill. The women's squad had only three players compete at the IIAC Championships this fall and did not field a team score.
