DUBUQUE, IOWA . . . The University of Dubuque women's basketball student-athlete, Jennifer Nichols (Sr., Forward, Woodstock, Ill./Woodstock HS), was named to D3hoops.com Team of the week presented by Scoutware.
Nichols garnered the award after being named MVP of the Wis.-Eau Claire Thanksgiving Showcase and helped the Spartans to three victories during the week. She has been UD's leading scorer in all every contests this season, averaging 19.5 points per game. In the championship game against Northwestern (Minn.), the Spartans set a school-record by sinking 14 3-point goals. Nichols was 4-of-7 in that game and 9-of-23 for the entire week. She was named the IIAC Female Athlete of the Week on Tuesday for the Spartans.
Her scoring pace continued this week when she pumped in 20 points in the first half against Loras College on Wednesday night and finished with 29 points in the Iowa Conference opener.
UD trailed 41-50 after the first period against the Duhawks, but despite Nichols connecting from the three point area 5-9 times the Duhawks would extend the lead 93-72 when the game ended. Mollie Whiting added 14 points, four assists and two steals as teammate Krystal Parr finished with 10 points in 29 minutes of play.
The Spartans (4-3 overall, 0-1 in IIAC) gave up 16 second chance points after being out rebounded 37-50 in the game. UD will continue play in the Iowa Conference when they travel to Cedar Rapids to face the Coe College Kohawks (2-3 overall, 0-1 in IIAC).
