DUBUQUE'S ZWEIFEL, CORNELL'S BLADT
EARN ALL-AMERICA HONORS
COE'S WEYMILLER RECEIVES HONORABLE MENTION

December 21, 2009

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Two Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) football players have recently been named to All-America teams released by D3football.com and the Associated Press. University of Dubuque junior wide receiver Michael Zweifel (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) was a D3football.com Second Team selection and an AP Little All-America Third Team pick, while Cornell College senior defensive back Don Bladt (Shelby, Iowa/AHST) was tabbed for the D3football.com Third Team. In addition, Coe College freshman defensive end Frank Weymiller (New Albin, Iowa/Waukon) received honorable mention from D3football.com.

Zweifel ranked among the national leaders in all three major receiving categories, leading Division III with 152.2 receiving yards per game and ranking second with 111 receptions and 1,522 receiving yards. He also caught 15 touchdown passes. Bladt set Iowa Conference single-game records for receptions and receiving yards with a 20-catch, 330-yard, 3-touchdown performance in a 36-33 Dubuque win at Simpson October 17. He broke records held by Dubuque’s Matt Plummer (18 receptions vs. Buena Vista, Oct. 12, 1996) and Simpson’s Jim Henderson (276 yards vs. Wartburg, Nov. 4, 1967).

Bladt ranked 19th nationally with an IIAC-best six interceptions in 2009. His 130 yards in interception returns this past season rank fifth in school history. He finished second on the team with 77 tackles, including a team-best 42 solo stops. Bladt reached double figures in tackles twice this fall against perennial IIAC powers Wartburg (13) and Central (12). For his career, he had 10 games in which he recorded at least 10 tackles. Bladt was also a key contributor on special teams as the Rams' primary return man. He netted a team-best 717 all-purpose yards, including 523 on 30 kickoff returns. Bladt returned seven punts for 64 yards.

Weymiller was Coe's third-leading tackler with 90 stops (55 solo). He also posted 21.0 tackles-for-loss, including a Coe single-season record 15.5 sacks that ranked third in Division III. Weymiller also broke up seven passes, forced five fumbles with one recovery, and registered eight quarterback hurries.
