Kari Hutchinson, Central College, Charles City, Iowa/Charles City
Hutchinson, a senior, was named Women’s Most Valuable Performer at the 2008 Iowa Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend. She played a part in six point-scoring performances for the runner-up Dutch. In addition to her NCAA provisional qualifying point total of 4,310 in the heptathlon, she ran the anchor leg of Central’s 4x400-meter relay, which won with an NCAA-provisional-qualifying time of 3:55.57. Hutchinson also placed third in both the 200 (25.42) and 400 (57.47), fourth in the high jump (1.5 meters; 4-11) and sixth in the long jump (5.14 meters; 16-10 ½), posting an NCAA provisional time in the 400. Kari Hutchinson, Central College, Charles City, Iowa/Charles City
Hutchinson, a senior, won two events (200 and 100 hurdles) and compiled an NCAA-provisional-qualifying total of 4,310 points en route to the heptathlon title at the Iowa Conference Multi-Events Championship May 2-3 in Waverly. Hutchinson placed in the top-4 in each of the seven events.

Ellen Thys, Loras College, Victor, Iowa/HLV
Thys, a senior, won the discus throw and improved her NCAA provisional effort in the hammer throw at the Loras Open. Her winning throw of 151 feet, 10 inches in the discus is an NCAA provisional effort. She took second in the hammer with her NCAA provisional toss of 169-4 and placed 12th in the shot put (37-3).
April 20
Hannah Baker, Wartburg College, Keota, Iowa/Keota
Baker, a sophomore, helped lead Wartburg’s 4x400 team to an automatic NCAA Division III qualifying time of 3:48.7 with a fourth-place finish at the Kansas Relays. She also turned in a provisional qualifying effort in the open 400, placing 10th in a multi-divisional field with a time of 57.36. She missed qualifying for the finals in the 400 by .46 of a second. The 4x400 squad, which currently has the second-fastest time in Division III, was the only Division III team in the final.

Hannah Baker, Wartburg College, Keota, Iowa/Keota
Baker, a sophomore, was part of two individual event championships and one runner-up effort for Wartburg as the Knights placed second in a multi-divisional field at the Wartburg Select April 5. She ran on the runner-up 4x400 relay (3:55.65) in addition to placing first in a field of 34 runners in the 400-meter dash (56.45) and running on the winning 4x100 (47.81). All three were NCAA provisional qualifying efforts.

Thys, a senior, placed first among collegiate competitors in the discus throw at the Augustana Viking Olympics with a school record and NCAA automatic qualifying throw of 159 feet, 7 inches. She also finished third in the hammer throw (151-11 – 5th in the nation) and took fourth in the shot put (39-7). (IIAC Female Athlete of the Week)
