May 7
Angela Hartwig, Wartburg College, Long Grove, Iowa/North Scott
Hartwig, a freshman pitcher, went 2-0 with two saves and a 0.00 earned run average in four games during the week. She struck out 19 batters, allowed six hits and two walks in 14.2 innings. In her lone start of the week, she threw a complete game three-hitter with 11 strikeouts in an 8-0, six-inning victory over Buena Vista. Hartwig pitched in all three of Wartburg’s Conference Tournament games in relief. She earned the save in the Knights’ 6-0 win over Luther, pitching 1.1 innings of no-hit relief and striking out one. Hartwig picked up the win in a 5-4 victory over Coe, pitching five innings of three-hit relief with five strikeouts. She also recorded the save in the Championship game, a 3-0 win over Coe, pitching 2.1 hitless innings and striking out two.

Lisa Huinker, Luther College, Decorah, Iowa/Decorah
Huinker, a junior second baseman, hit .556 (5-for-9) with four home runs, nine RBI, six runs scored and a 1.889 slugging percentage in four games during the week. She had nearly identical lines in a doubleheader split with Conference-leader Wartburg. She went 1-for-2 with a home run, run scored and walk in both games. In the first game, an 8-0 five-inning Luther win, she drove in three runs. In the second game, an 11-3 five-inning Wartburg win, she drove in one. Huinker went 2-for-3 with two home runs, five RBI and two runs scored in a 6-2 victory over St. Olaf, setting the school record for RBI in a season (now with 43). Ashley Leonard, Coe College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy
Leonard, a freshman short stop, hit .692 (9-for-13) with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored in four games during the week. She went 3-for-7 in a doubleheader split with #19 Central including 2-for-3 in the first game (a 3-1 Coe win) and 1-for-4 in game two (a 7-3 Coe loss). She was a perfect 6-for-6 in a doubleheader sweep of Luther, going 3-for-3 with an RBI in both contests. She had a solo home run in the first game, a 9-1 victory. In the second game, a 4-1 win, she drove in the tying run and scored the go-ahead run.

Cari Kinzenbaw, Wartburg College, Ladora, Iowa/HLV
Kinzenbaw, a senior short stop, hit .769 (10-for-13) with four triples, a double, six RBI and eight runs scored in four games during the week. She slugged 1.462 during the week and had four multi-hit games, including two three-hit performances and two two-hit performances. She went 2-for-3 with a double in a 5-0 win over Loras and went 3-for-4 with two triples, three RBI and three runs scored in an 11-3 win over Loras. In a doubleheader sweep of Dubuque, she went 2-for-3 with a triple and run scored in game one (a 1-0 win) then went 3-for-3 with a triple, three RBI and four runs scored in game two (an 11-1 win). Brandi Sykora, Buena Vista University, Smithland, Iowa/Westwood
Sykora, a sophomore utility player, led Buena Vista to a 5-1 record during the week with performances in the circle and at the plate. She threw three complete games without surrendering an earned run and hit .421 (6-for-19) with two home runs, a double, six RBI and six runs scored. She won the second game of doubleheaders against Cornell (one hit, three strikeouts), Nebraska Wesleyan (six hits, three unearned runs, six strikeouts) and Loras (three hits, two unearned runs, five strikeouts in a five-inning game). Offensively, she had three multi-hit games – 2-for-4 performances while pitching against Cornell and Nebraska Wesleyan, and 2-for-3 in game one against Loras.

Amy Daniels, Wartburg College, Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls
Daniels, a freshman third baseman, hit .632 (12-for-19) and slugged 1.432 in six games during the week. She had three doubles, four home runs, 14 RBI and scored nine runs leading #7-ranked Wartburg to a 6-0 week. She had four multi-hit games including a 2-for-2 performance in game two of a doubleheader against Wisconsin-LaCrosse, a 3-for-3 performance in game two against Wisconsin-Platteville, and 2-for-4 and 3-for-4 performances against Coe. Daniels also had four multi-RBI games including three RBI in game one against LaCrosse and Platteville, two RBI in game two against Platteville and four in game two against Coe. Shelby Kent, Coe College, Lucas, Iowa/Chariton
Kent, a sophomore outfielder, hit .636 (7-for-11) with two home runs, a triple, seven RBI and four runs scored in five games during the week. In a 2-0 win over Augustana (Ill.), she had a solo home run in two at-bats. She went 3-for-3 with a triple, home run, two runs scored and four RBI in Coe’s 14-2 win over Monmouth (Ill.). Kent went 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored in an 8-0 victory over Wisconsin-Stout. After being held hitless in a 1-0 victory over #13-ranked St. Mary’s (Minn.), she finished her week with a hit in her only at-bat in a 10-2 win over Mount Mercy.

Chris Engel, Coe College, Indianola, Iowa/Indianola
Engel, a senior first baseman, hit .636 (7-for-11) with two home runs, three doubles, 11 RBI and three runs scored in four games during the week. She began the week with a 1-for-3, two RBI offensive performance in Coe’s 9-0 victory over Greenville. She was held hitless in one official at-bat in a 2-1 victory over Fontbonne but drove in a run on a sacrifice fly and also had a sacrifice bunt. Engel’s top game of the week was in an 8-1 win over Blackburn in which she went 4-for-4 with a grand slam, two doubles and seven RBI. She finished the week with a 2-for-3, a home run, an RBI and two runs scored in a 5-2 victory over Maryville (Mo.). (IIAC Female Athlete of the Week)
March 12
Bradi Smith, Simpson College, Lacona, Iowa/Southeast Warren
Smith, a senior pitcher, has appeared in five games and has yet to surrender an earned run in 23 innings. She has a 2-1 record with two saves, 33 strikeouts, and has allowed just five hits and four walks in five games. She threw her second career no-hitter against Westminster (Mo.), striking out six and walking two in a 10-0, five-inning win. Smith also had a complete game victory (1-0) over Bridgewater State, striking out 12, walking one and surrendering two hits. Her lone loss came at the hands of #6-ranked William Paterson in which she struck out 12 batters, allowed one hit and walked one while surrendering two unearned runs in a 2-0 loss. She recorded saves in each of her relief appearances – one inning vs. St. Francis (Ill.) and three innings vs. Rhode Island College.
