Sonja Schwenker, Coe College, Burlington, Iowa/Burlington
Schwenker, a senior outfielder/pitcher, went 5-for-9 in the Iowa Conference Tournament with two doubles and a home run. She earned two wins in the circle and a save in the third while striking out 13 as Coe won its first Iowa Conference Softball Tournament.

April 26, 2009

Amy Hanse, Coe College, Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar
Hanse, a senior first baseman, belted her 10th and 11th career home runs in her final game at Clark Field, leading the Kohawks to a 4-0 record during the week. She hit .500 with 10 RBI, two doubles and two home runs during the week and was perfect in 22 chances in the field.

Lauran Snyder, Luther College, San Pedro, Calif./San Pedro
Snyder, a freshman third baseman, hit .609 with 11 RBI, three doubles, and three RBI as the Norse posted a 5-3 record during the week.

Rachel Gratz, University of Dubuque, Newark, Calif./Memorial
Gratz, a freshman first baseman, hit .400 as the Spartans posted wins against No. 14-ranked Wis.-Whitewater (2008 Division III runner-up) and No. 6-ranked Central. The win against the Dutch was just the second in program history. The wins were also UD’s first against ranked teams since 2000 when the Spartans edged Central 2-1. Dubuque has 11 losses by two runs or less this season. (IIAC Female Athlete of the Week)

Angela Davis, Central College, West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley
Davis, a freshman second baseman, had a pair of walk-off hits against nationally-ranked opponents over a four-day span last week. She hit a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning to cap a three-run inning and allow Central to come from two runs down to defeat No. 17 Luther 4-3 April 1. Davis added a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Dutch posted a 4-3, come-from-behind win over No. 4 Washington University April 3.

March 29, 2009

Sonja Schwenker, Coe College, Burlington, Iowa/Burlington
Schwenker, a senior pitcher/outfielder, struck out 14 batters while picking up the win in the second game of a doubleheader split with #5/20 Wartburg March 29. In four games during the week, she hit .385 with two doubles and two RBIs. Schwenker also picked up a no-decision after pitching 6 1/3 innings and striking out six in a 2-1, 8-inning Kohawk win over Willliam Penn March 25. (IIAC Female Athlete of the Week)

Angela Davis, Central College, West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley
Davis, a freshman second basemen, delivered a two-out, two-RBI hit in the sixth inning for the tying runs in Central’s come-from-behind 6-4 upset win over No. 2 and defending national champion Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She hit .419 with two triples, eight RBI, and 10 runs scored and committed just one error as the Dutch posted a 10-0 mark during the week. (IIAC Female Athlete of the Week)

March 15, 2009

Lexy Determan, Wartburg College, Terril, Iowa/Graettinger-Terril
Determan, a sophomore pitcher, fired back-to-back shutouts as Wartburg swept past Stephens (Mo.) and Westminster (Mo.) this past weekend. She struck out 14 in a 3-0 win over Stephens March 14, allowing only two hits and didn’t allow a base-runner past second base. She came back the next day and struck out 11 over six innings in a 1-0 victory at Westminster. Determan has yet to surrender an earned run in 35 1/3 innings, striking out 53 batters en route to a 6-0 record. (IIAC Female Athlete of the Week)

Whitney Oviatt, Simpson College, Carnation, Wash./Cedarcrest
Oviatt, a junior pitcher, went 8-0 with 62 strikeouts and four shutouts as the Storm went 9-1 to open the season.
