Feb. 5

Megan Verbrugge, Coe College, Sioux Falls, S.D./Lincoln
Verbrugge, a senior, was named Iowa Conference Female Swimmer of the Year at the Conference Championship after winning five events and placing in the top-three of seven total events. She won and set the meet, school and Conference record in the 400-yard individual medley (4:37.95) and the 1650-yard freestyle (18:07.17). Her 400 IM time met NCAA B cut qualifying standards. She also won the 200-yard IM (2:14.95, meet and school record) and was a member of the winning 200- and 400-yard medley relays (1:55.12 and 4:13.16, respectively). Verbrugge was also a member of the second-place 800-yard freestyle relay (8:16.78) and third-place 400-yard freestyle relay (3:50.27). (IIAC Female Athlete of the Week)

Jan. 29

Megan Verbrugge, Coe College, Sioux Falls, S.D./Lincoln
Verbrugge, a senior, won the 200-yard individual medley (2:15.96) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:23.32) in Coe’s double-dual over Grinnell and Monmouth (Ill.). She set the school record in the 200-yard IM and swam a season-best in the 500-yard freestyle. She was also a member of the second-place 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:48.40), swimming a 26.35 second split.

Jan. 22

Hannah Szerlong, Loras College, Milton, Wis./Milton
Szerlong, a freshman, was part of three winning events in Loras’ dual loss to Wisconsin-Whitewater (122-109) including two individual events and a relay. She won the 400-yard individual medley (4:49.26) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:20.87), swimming season best times in both events. She was also a member of the winning 400-yard medley relay (4:19.49).

Jan. 15

Lauren Lehenbauer, Loras College, Davenport, Iowa/Bettendorf
Lehenbauer, a freshman, won four events, set two school records and finished third on two relays at the University of Chicago Invitational to lead Loras to a third-place team finish. She set a school record in winning the 500-yard freestyle (5:14.76) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:14.60). She also won the 400-yard individual medley (4:48.83) and was a member of the winning 800-yard freestyle relay (8:15.27). Lehenbauer was a member of the third-place 400-yard freestyle (3:55.09) and 400-yard medley (4:18.93) relay teams.

Lauren Lehenbauer, Loras College, Davenport, Iowa/Bettendorf
Lehenbauer, a freshman, had six top-4 finishes in two dual meets during the week. She won three events, setting two school records, in a 127-104 victory over Luther – 200-yard butterfly (school record 2:15.12), 400-yard medley relay (school record 4:13.02) and 500-yard freestyle (5:20.32). In a loss to Division I East Carolina, she finished second in the 400-meter freestyle (4:46.64), third in the 200-meter freestyle (2:18.34) and fourth in the 100-meter butterfly (1:12.91).

Dec. 25

Megan Verbrugge, Coe College, Sioux Falls, S.D./Lincoln
Verbrugge, a senior, won three events in Coe’s dual victory over Morningside (139-74) to give her a team-best eight first-place finishes this year. She won the 200-yard individual medley (2:19.31), the 500-yard freestyle (5:25.47) and anchored the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:59.11, 58.20 split).

Dec. 11

Hannah Szerlong, Loras College, Milton, Wis./Milton
Szerlong, a freshman, won three events in Loras’ dual victory over Augustana (Ill.). She set the school record in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in a time of 1:09.09, five seconds ahead of the second place finisher. She also won the 200-yard individual medley (2:17.62) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.60).

Dec. 4
Elissa Schmidt, Luther College, Claremont, Minn./Owatonna
Schmidt, a sophomore, won the 100 and 200-yard freestyle events (56.68 and 2:02.76) and was a member of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay (1:44.57) at the St. Mary’s (Minn.) Invitational. She also placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.37) as the Norse won the five-team Invitational by 33.5 points over runner-up St. Thomas (619-585.5).
Nov. 20
Chelsea Croson, Simpson College, Newton, Iowa/Newton
Croson, a freshman, won two events and placed second in another in each of two dual meets during the week. In an 88-68 loss to Coe, she won the 100-yard butterfly (1:09.89) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:20.60), and was a member of the second-place 200-yard medley relay team (2:19.28). In a 126-56 loss to Loras, Croson won the 100-meter butterfly (1:18.19) and the 100-meter breaststroke (1:30.68), and was a member of the second-place 200-meter relay team (2:27.83).
Nov. 13
Kristine Brick, Luther College, Central City, S.D./Lead
Brick, a junior, posted three top-three finishes including two first-place finishes at the University of Chicago Invitational. She won the 200-yard IM (2:19.42) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:21.47). She also finished third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.97).

Nov. 6
Lauren Lehenbauer, Loras College, Davenport, Iowa/Assumption
Lehenbauer, a freshman, set the Loras record in the 1000-yard freestyle, finishing second in the event in a time of 10:54.80, nearly 10 seconds better than the old mark. She also won the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.71) and was a member of the second-place 200-yard freestyle relay (1:46.59, 27.33 split) in the Duhawks’ dual victory over Coe (122.5-108.5).
