Feb. 4

Elissa Schmidt, Luther College, Claremont, Minn./Owatonna
Schmidt, a junior, was named Iowa Conference Swimmer of the Year after winning five events and finishing second in two others at the Conference Championship leading Luther to its third-straight title. She set Conference records in winning the 50 freestyle (24.61) and the 200 freestyle (1:58.58) while also winning the 100 freestyle (55.61). Schmidt also took home titles as part of the 800 freestyle relay (8:13.0, 2:00.55 lead leg) and the 200 medley relay (1:55.54, 24.70 anchor leg). She also swam the lead leg of the second-place finishing 200 free relay (1:44.08, 25.81 split) and the 400 free relay (3:44.09, 55.12 split).

Jan. 28

Kelcie McKain, Coe College, Indianola, Iowa/Indianola
McKain, a freshman, won both events she entered in Coe’s 97-92 dual win at Monmouth (Ill.). She swam a time of 59.55 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle and a time of 12:11.25 in the 1000-yard freestyle.

Jan. 21

Gayle Dunlap, Coe College, Iowa City, Iowa/City High
Dunlap, a senior, won all three events she entered in a 120-97 dual victory over Morningside. She won the 50 freestyle (26.00), the 100 freestyle (58.63) and anchored the 200 freestyle relay with a split of 26.74.

Jan. 14

Lauren Lehenbauer, Loras College, Davenport, Iowa/Bettendorf
Lehenbauer, a sophomore, placed in the top-four of five events at the Grinnell Invitational, swimming season best times in four of the five. She won the 400 individual medley (4:49.38) and the 500 freestyle (5:20.06), and finished second in the 200 butterfly (2:15.61). Lehenbauer was also a member of the 400 medley relay team that finished third (4:19.30) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:51.36) that finished fourth.

Jan. 7

Valerie Hoops, Luther College, Freeport, Ill./Freeport
Hoops, a junior, was a two-time winner in Luther’s 173-54 dual victory over Loras. She won the 1,000 freestyle by five seconds with a pool record time of 10:56.62 and was a member of the winning 400 freestyle relay team that set a pool record with a finish of 3:47.29, winning the event by nine seconds.

Dec. 10

Elissa Schmidt, Luther College, Claremont, Minn./Owatonna
Schmidt, a junior, set the pool record in the 200 freestyle in Luther’s dual loss to Minnesota State-Mankato with a time of 1:59.83. She also finished second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.56, less than a second behind Mankato’s Kaitlin Degner who swam a pool record time of 54.69.

Nov. 19

Elissa Schmidt, Luther College, Claremont, Minn./Owatonna
Schmidt, a junior, won three freestyle events at the St. John’s (Minn.) Invitational. She won the 50-yard free in 25.92 seconds, the 100-yard free in 55.32 seconds and the 200-yard free in 1:59.45.

Nov. 12

Lauren Lehenbauer, Loras College, Davenport, Iowa/Bettendorf
Lehenbauer, a sophomore, won four events at the Monmouth (Ill.) Invitational leading the Duhawks to a first-place team finish. She won the 400-yard individual medley (4:51.99), the 200-yard butterfly (2:16.55), the 1650-yard freestyle (18:33.53) and she swam the butterfly leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay team (1:59.60).

Nov. 5

Lauren Lehenbauer, Loras College, Davenport, Iowa/Bettendorf
Lehenbauer, a sophomore, won three events in Loras’ season opening victory over Coe (138-99). She placed first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.37), the 500-yard freestyle (5:25.93) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:22.75).

Oct. 29

Elissa Schmidt, Luther College, Claremont, Minn./Owatonna
Schmidt, a junior, led Luther to three dual victories posting five first-place finishes. In a dual victory over St. Mary’s (Minn.), she won the 50-yard freestyle (26.08) and 100-yard freestyle (56.58). She also won the 50-yard free (26.29), 100-yard free (56.30) and was a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay (1:59.98) in a double-dual with Morningside and Stephens.
