Feb. 3
Lauren Lehenbauer, Loras College, Davenport, Iowa/Bettendorf
Lehenbauer, a junior, was named IIAC Swimmer of the Year after posting wins in three individual events and placing second on three relays at the 2008 Iowa Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. Lehenbauer won the 400 individual medley (4:40.30), the 200 butterfly (2:15.04), and the 1650 freestyle (17:54.83) and swam legs on runner-up 400 freestyle (3:51.34), 800 freestyle (8:33.60), and 400 medley (4:21.12) relays. Lehenbauer’s time in the 1650 free broke the school and IIAC meet record. She also set a school record in the 1000 free with her intermediate split in the 1650.
Jan. 27
Elissa Schmidt, Luther College, Claremont, Minn./Owatonna
Schmidt, a senior, was part of three Luther pool records during Luther’s 197.5-102.5 victory over Grinnell Saturday. She placed first in the 200 freestyle (1:56.50 – pool record), 100 freestyle (:54.12 – pool record), 100 butterfly (1:01.87), and swam the first leg of the 200 freestyle relay that placed first with a pool-record time of 1:42.91.

Elissa Schmidt, Luther College, Claremont, Minn./Owatonna
Schmidt, a senior, helped lead Luther to the team championship of the 8-team Grinnell Invitational. She set the Luther school and Grinnell pool records with her first-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:56.05) and swam the first leg on the 400 freestyle relay, which set a new Norse record of 3:38.89. Schmidt also finished second in the 50 freestyle (:25.44), 200 individual medley (2:14.41), and the 100 freestyle (:54.43).
Jan. 13
Elissa Schmidt, Luther College, Claremont, Minn./Owatonna
Schmidt, a senior, won three events at the Saint Mary’s (Minn.) University Quadrangular, where the Norse finished second. At Saint Mary’s, Schmidt won the 200 freestyle (1:57.44), 100 freestyle (:54.43), and the 100 butterfly (1:02.56), and swam the first leg on the runner-up 200 freestyle relay (1:43.20). In a Jan. 5 dual win at Loras, Schmidt swam the first leg on the winning 400 freestyle relay (3:47.24) and the third leg on the winning 400 medley relay (4:18.50), and finished second in the 500 freestyle (5:22.96).
Dec. 9
Sarah Taucher, Coe College, Clinton, Iowa/Clinton
Taucher, a senior, won the 500 freestyle (5:48.42) and the 1000 freestyle (11:54.04) and swam on the runner-up 400 freestyle relay (4:10.02) as Coe posted a 0-1-1 record in a double dual against Beloit and UW-Whitewater at UW-Whitewater.
Dec. 2
Rachel Bruns, Luther College, Albany, Minn./Albany
Bruns, a freshman, swam in six events at the UW-River Falls Falcon Invitational, setting school records in the 100 freestyle (3rd of 60; 53.36s) and as a member of the sixth-place 200 freestyle relay (1:40.29). Bruns also placed 6th of 81 in the 50 freestyle (24.53), 21st of 55 in the 200 freestyle (2:03.21), and swam on the fifth-place 400 freestyle relay (3:40.55) and the 10th-place 400 medley relay (4:10.97). The nine-team meet included the University of Minnesota, University of North Dakota, and University of South Dakota.
Nov. 18
Colleen Fowler, Coe College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson
Fowler, a junior, recorded NCAA qualifying marks for the second time this season with first-place performances in the one-meter (258.00) and the three-meter (240.90) diving competitions during Coe’s 120-100 dual win over Augustana (Ill.).
Nov. 11
Lauren Lehenbauer, Loras College, Davenport, Iowa/Bettendorf
Lehanbauer, a junior, won four events (three individual, one relay) while leading the Duhawks to a team title at the Monmouth Invitational. Lehenbauer won the 400 individual medley (4:47.83) by over eight seconds, the 200 butterfly (2:17.81) by more than 10 seconds, and the 500 freestyle (5:24.13) by better than 16 seconds. She also swam the third leg of the victorious 200 medley relay (2:01.15). (IIAC Female Athlete of the Week)
Nov. 4
Valerie Hoops, Luther College, Freeport, Ill./Freeport
Hoops, a senior, won three events while helping Luther to dual meet wins over UW-Oshkosh (63-49) and UW-Whitewater (63-49). She won the 1,650 free (19:10.88) and 20 minutes later won the 400 IM (5:01.71). Luther is now 5-0 in dual meets.
Oct. 28
Rachel Bruns, Luther College, Albany, Minn./Albany
Bruns, a freshman, won the 50 free (25.73) and swam as part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:57.61) as the Norse posted a season-opening 142-59 dual win over Saint Mary’s (Minn.). Bruns followed that performance up with wins in the 50 free (25.85) and 100 free (56.43) and as part of the winning 200 free relay (1:44.85) during a triangular with Simpson at Coe.
