Feb. 1, 2009

Colleen Fowler, Coe College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington & Lauren Lehenbauer, Loras College, Davenport, Iowa/Bettendorf
Fowler, a senior, was named Female Diver of the Year at the Liberal Arts Championships after sweeping both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions. She won the 1-meter competition with a 421.50 score and the 3-meter competition with a 439.60 total, provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships. (IIAC Female Athlete of the Week)

Lehenbauer, a senior, was named Female Swimmer of the Year at the Liberal Arts Championships winning three events in meet-record time. She won the 500 freestyle (5:04.70), 400 IM (4:33.34), and 1,650 freestyle (17:41.94), eclipsing the NCAA B standard in each event. Lehenbauer also swam the opening leg of the runner-up 200 free (1:41.40) and 400 free (3:43.27) relays, as well as the third-place 800 free relay (8:20.79). She also swam on the fifth-place 400 medley relay (4:11.06). (IIAC Female Athlete of the Week)

Colleen Fowler, Coe College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington
Fowler, a senior, won both the 1-meter (292.7) and 3-meter (307.25) diving events in a 160-93 dual loss at Grinnell Jan. 30. She achieved an NCAA qualifying standard for the third time this season, provisionally qualifying her for the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships. Fowler also broke two Grinnell pool records with her scores.

Jan. 25, 2009

Addison Choi, Luther College, Aurora, Colo./Grandview
Choi, a sophomore, set a new Luther pool record in the 500 freestyle (5:08.18) by nearly eight full seconds in the Norse’s 142-80 dual win over UW-Oshkosh Jan. 24. Her time was also a B-Cut qualifying mark for the NCAA Division III Championships. The previous record was 5:16.17 set Jan. 3, 2009, by Loras’ Lauren Lehenbauer. Choi also swam on the winning 200 free relay (1:43.31) and the third-place 200 medley relay (2:00.20). (IIAC Female Athlete of the Week)

Lauren Lehenbauer, Loras College, Davenport, Iowa/Bettendorf
Lehenbauer, a senior, won three individual events for the Duhawks at the University of Chicago Invitational over the weekend. She won the 500 freestyle (5:10.89) in school record time, as well as the 400 IM (4:42.95) and the 1650 freestyle (17:52.87).

Jan. 11, 2009

Rachel Bruns, Luther College, Albany, Minn./Albany
Bruns, a sophomore, won the 50 freestyle (25.25), 100 freestyle (54.58) and swam the second leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:41.55) as Luther took second at the Saint Mary’s (Minn.) Invitational. Bruns also took fourth in the 200 freestyle (2:02.10).

Jan. 4, 2009

Kristin Trudell, Luther College, Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead
Trudell, a junior, set a new Luther pool record in the 200 butterfly with a winning time of 2:15.11 in the Norse’s Jan. 3 dual win over Loras. The old mark of 2:18.63 was set Nov. 19, 2005. She also swam on the winning 400 medley relay (4:17.80).

Dec. 14, 2008

Alex Proctor, Loras College, Tipton, Iowa/Tipton
Proctor, a freshman, contributed to three winning events in Loras’ 127-98 dual win at Augustana (Ill.) Dec. 12. She won the 50 freestyle (:26.15) and 100 butterfly (1:03.25), and swam on the winning 200 medley relay (1:59.03).

Dec. 7, 2008

Kenzie Murray, Loras College, Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine
Murray, a sophomore, competed in nine events at the Augustana Invitational posting seven victories and two runner-up finishes. She won the 100 breaststroke (1:13.12), 200 breaststroke (2:36.23), and 200 IM (2:21.42), and swam on winning 200 freestyle (1:46.88), 400 freestyle (3:54.56), 200 medley (1:58.40), and 400 medley (4:23.69) relays. She also placed second in the 200 freestyle (2:07.02) and swam on the runner-up 800 freestyle relay (8:39.12). (IIAC Women’s Athlete of the Week)

Luther College 800 freestyle relay team (Erin Mykleby, Fr., Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley; Addison Choi, So., Aurora, Colo./Grandview; Rachel Bruns, So., Albany, Minn./Albany; Amy Schneider, Sr., East Dubuque, Ill/Dubuque [Iowa] Wahlert)
The Luther quartet won the 800 freestyle relay in a 169-31 home dual win against Morningside. Their time of 7:47.16 established a B-standard qualifying time for the 2009 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships and broke the old Luther pool record by a full minute. Nov. 16, 2008

Lauren Lehenbauer, Loras College, Davenport, Iowa/Bettendorf
Lehenbauer, a senior, contributed to four event-winning performances while leading the Duhawks to the title at the Monmouth Invitational. She won the 400 IM (4:43.07), 200 butterfly (2:15.48), 500 freestyle (5:14.83), and swam the opening leg of the winning 200 free relay (1:46.85). (IIAC Female Athlete of the Week)

Nov. 9, 2008

Colleen Fowler, Coe College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington
Fowler, a senior, won all four diving competitions in which she entered over the weekend. She won the 1-meter (245.6) and 3-meter (229.80) competitions in a dual loss to Augustana (115-106), then swept both 1-meter diving competitions (166.35/voluntary; 232.05/optional) in a double dual against Loras (L, 81-153) and Morningside (L, 100-104).

Nov. 2, 2008

Erin Mykleby, Luther College, Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley
Mykleby, a freshman, opened her collegiate career with a pair of pool record in a 148-65 dual win over Coe October 31, then played a part in four winning efforts as the Norse swept UW-Oshkosh (189-91) and UW-Whitewater (184.5-109.5) in a double dual November 1. Against Coe, she won the 100 butterfly by a full five seconds with a pool-record time of 1:00.32. At UW-Whitewater, she won the 50 butterfly (27.46), broke the school record in the 100 backstroke (1:01.48) and swam on winning 400 free (3:43.70) and 400 medley (4:16.61) relays.
