Fiala, Coe College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson Fiala, a junior, finished a combined 10-0 on the week and captured both the Flight A singles and Flight A doubles titles at the Iowa Conference Women’s Tennis Championship. Fiala opened her week with a pair of victories in a dual at Cornell – a 6-0, 6-0 win over Pavla Brachova at No. 1 singles and an 8-4 win (with Andrea Schupbach) over Cornell’s No. 1 doubles team. At the Iowa Conference Championships, Fiala posted four straight-set wins in Flight A, capturing her second individual singles title in three years with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over teammate Hannah Jensen in the championship match. Fiala paired with Schupbach to post four victories in the Flight A doubles draw, including a 9-7 win over Jensen and Hillary Allen of Coe in the final. Fiala and Schupbach battled back from a 7-2 deficit to capture the title. It was also the second doubles title in three years for Fiala, who missed last year’s individual championship while competing at the ITA Small College Championships. Brachova, Cornell College, Ames, Iowa/Ames Brachova went 6-0 on the week with three wins each at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. In singles play, Brachova posted straight-set wins over Clarke's Mirelis Rivera-Rodriguez, Loras' Alisha Espey, and Dubuque's Rachel Sarafin. Brachova teamed with Caryl Abeyta to post wins over No. 1 doubles teams from Clarke (8-3), Loras (8-1), and Dubuque (8-5). The winner of seven consecutive singles matches, Brachova improved her overall season record to 22-4. |

Fiala, Coe College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson Fiala, a junior, posted two wins each at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles to lead the Kohawks to a pair of IIAC victories. Against Loras, Fiala defeated Alisha Espey 6-1, 6-1 and teamed with Andrea Schupbach to post an 8-1 win over the Duhawks’ top doubles tandem. Fiala also posted a 6-2, 7-5 win over Luther’s Molly Beyer and again teamed with Schupbach for an 8-5 win over Luther’s No. 1 doubles team. |

Molly Fiala, Coe College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson Fiala, a junior, advanced to the semifinal round of both the singles and doubles draws at the ITA Midwest Region Championships in St. Peter, Minn. Fiala posted a trio of singles wins before falling to eventual champion Jenni White of Gustavus Adolphus College 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals. She also teamed with Andrea Schupbach to post three doubles wins before being eliminated from contention by the Gustavus tandem of White and Sierra Krebsbach. White and Krebsbach went on to win the doubles title. |

Allen, Coe College, Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins Allen, a sophomore, posted wins at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles (with Hannah Jensen) in No. 29 Coe’s 7-2 win over #20 Carthage. Allen defeated Taylor Gustafson 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles and the Lady Red No. 2 doubles team 8-2 to improve to her singles record to 4-0 and doubles record to 3-0 on the year. |

Beyer, Luther College, Grand Junction, Colo./Grand Junction Beyer, a senior, went undefeated last week at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles as the Norse defeated Cornell 9-0 and Grinnell 8-1. Beyer needed super tie-breakers to post singles victories over Cornell’s Pavla Brachova (6-4, 3-6, 10-7) and Grinnell’s Camila Alarcon (6-4, 5-7, 10-8). Beyer teamed with Brynne Zinnecker to post an 8-4 win over Cornell’s No. 1 doubles team and an 8-2 win over Grinnell’s No. 1 doubles team. |

Brachova, Cornell College, Ames, Iowa/Ames Brachova, a junior, posted a 4-0 record during the week with two league victories each at #1 singles and #1 doubles. In singles play, she posted straight set wins over Simpson’s Martha Davis (6-0, 6-1) and Central’s Hillary Baehr (6-0, 6-4). Brachova teamed with Caryl Abeyta to post an 8-1 win over Simpson’s #1 doubles team and an 8-2 win over Central’s #1 doubles team. |
