October 5, 2001 TWENTY IIAC ATHLETES HONORED BY UNITED STATES TRACK COACHES ASSOCIATION MOUNT
VERNON, IA . . . The
United States Track Coaches Association (USTCA) recently announced
the teams and individuals that have earned its all-academic honors
for outdoor track and field for 2001.
Among those honored by the USTCA were 20 Iowa
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) athletes and three
schools. To qualify, individuals must have a minimum grade point average of 3.250 (on a 4.000 scale) and have participated in the 2001 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Teams are eligible if they had a minimum of 14 members who participated in the 2001 outdoor track and field season and had a minimum 3.100 cumulative GPA. To
excel on the athletic field to the level of qualifying for the
NCAA Championships and also excel in the classroom speaks volumes
about the student-athletes dedication to all facets of his or her
college experience, IIAC Commissioner John
Cochrane said. Having
20 athletes and three teams honored is indicative of these
individuals commitment to pursuing academic and athletic
excellence. They are
a tremendous source of pride for the Iowa Conference. From
the team standpoint, the Loras College women, Wartburg College
women and Luther College men were recognized by the USTCA.
