MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. . . . Senior Michael Pettengill capped off his Luther career by earning All-America honors in the 200 breaststroke at the 2010 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

Pettengill advanced to the A-Finals of this event, posting a time of 2:03.29, setting a school record in the process. He broke his own record of 2:03.65, that he had set on March 22, 2008. The top-eight swimmers from the field of 27 competitors following the preliminary round, advance to the A-Finals and earned All-America honors.

Pettengill placed eighth in the A-Finals clocked at 2:05.16, earning 11 points towards Luther's team score. The Norse finished the three-day meet with 22 points and finished in 33rd place.

With this honor, Pettengill becomes the first men's swimmer to earn All-America honors and the second in school history to do so. Up until this afternoon, Bill Kass was Luther's only All-American, an honor he earned in 1986 in one-meter diving.

Prior to today [Saturday]'s results, Pettengill had earned honorable mention All-America honors in the 100 breaststroke in 2007 and 2008, placing tenth both times.
