202 STUDENT-ATHLETES EARN ALL-ACADEMIC RECOGNITION

May 24, 2010

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that two hundred two student-athletes competing in the Conference’s six spring sports met the requirements for recognition on the 2009-10 Iowa Conference All-Academic Team.

To be eligible for IIAC All-Academic Team honors a student-athlete must compete at the varsity level, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and attain a 3.5 or better grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).

Luther College has a Conference-high 59 student-athletes added to the Team followed by Simpson College (30 student-athletes), Wartburg College (29 student-athletes), and Loras College (21 student-athletes). Of the 202 recognized, 81 were sophomores, 53 were juniors, and 68 were seniors.

One hundred fifteen of the student-athletes honored participated in track and field, including 72 women and 43 men. Twenty-nine baseball players, 28 softball players, 17 men’s tennis players, and 13 men’s golfers round out the Spring 2010 additions to the Team.

Eighty-two (40.6 percent) of the 2010 Spring All-Academic Team earned IIAC All-Academic honors in the fall or winter season. Twenty-eight of Luther’s 59, 16 of Luther’s 30, and ten of Wartburg’s 29 Spring All-Academic selections earned similar honors in the fall or winter.
