INDIANOLA, IOWA . . . Simpson-alum Bryan Geelan recently accepted the position of athletics communication director at Simpson College. Geelan comes to Simpson from Macon, Ga., where he was a graduate assistant at Mercer University during the 2008-09 academic year.

A native of Ruthven, Iowa, Geelan graduated from Simpson in December of 2007 with degrees in corporate communication and marketing. Geelan served as a sports writer and editor for the institution’s student newspaper, The Simpsonian, and was a member of the Simpson football team during his academic career.

“We are excited that Bryan has joined our staff,” athletic director John Sirianni said. “Being a former student-athlete, Bryan has strong connections with the college and the staff and will be able to represent Simpson’s proud athletic tradition.”

Upon completion of his Simpson career, Geelan traveled to Macon, Ga., where he served as a communications intern for the Atlantic Sun Conference from February to July 2008 before accepting a graduate assistantship at NCAA Division I Mercer University. With Mercer from August 2008 to June 2009, Geelan served as the primary contact for men’s soccer and baseball, while providing support in volleyball and men’s and women’s basketball.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Simpson and am looking forward to working with the people who had such a positive impact on me as a student-athlete,” Geelan said. “I believe my past experience in sports information and my familiarity with Simpson will help me promote the success of our great student-athletes and coaches.”

Geelan’s duties at Simpson will include promoting and marketing Simpson’s athletics program, updating and maintaining the Web site, compiling statistics and keeping records, assisting in the production of athletics publications and acting as a liaison between the athletics department and the media.
