IOWA CONFERENCE ANNOUNCES
ENTRANCE INTO SOCIAL MEDIA

September 3, 2009

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The recent explosion in the popularity of social media has presented opportunities for organizations to connect with a wide variety of audiences. The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) acknowledges the influence of social media and is announcing its entry into two of the largest and continually growing networks: Twitter and Facebook.

"We hope to have some fun with our new presence on Twitter and Facebook," said IIAC Commissioner Chuck Yrigoyen. "I like the idea that each will be a little different from our official website, and we hope the public tries out all three. And we're back with our first feature video on YouTube as well at www.youtube.com/iowaconf, adding more excitement to the start of the school year."

The IIAC will use its Twitter handle and Facebook fan page, along with the preexisting YouTube page, to distribute sports news, information and updates about the conference, as well as share any interesting stories that followers and fans may find of interest.

The Iowa Conference can be found on Twitter as @IIACathletics and on Facebook under "Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference."

Founded in 1922, the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference continues its mission of facilitating the intellectual, spiritual and physical development of all students, whether as participants or spectators and placing the highest priority on the overall quality of the educational experience of our student-athletes and their successful completion of it.

The Iowa Conference annually crowns champions in 21 sports (11 men, 10 women). In 2008-09, three IIAC programs were crowned NCAA Division III champions (Wartburg wrestling and women's indoor and outdoor track & field), while 11 other programs posted national finishes of 11th place or better. Iowa Conference teams receive automatic qualification (AQ) status for most NCAA Division III national championship events.
