INDIVIDUAL TITLES AWARDED AT
IIAC WOMEN'S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) crowned champions in five individual flights (three singles and two doubles) Saturday at the Conference Women’s Tennis Individual Flighted Tournament. The Conference also announced the 2009 IIAC Women’s Tennis All-Conference Team. The Most Valuable Player and Coach of the Year will be announced on Tuesday, October 20.

In Flight A singles, top-seeded Kelsie Allen of Luther defeated Coe's Hannah Jensen 0-6, 6-4, 1-0 (6) in a rematch of the 2008 Flight A singles final. Allen defeated teammate Fran Fairfield 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10) and Jensen topped Wartburg's Molly Eslick 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals to advance to the championship match. Eslick defeated Fairfield 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (8) for third place.

Wartburg's Jenny Dallenbach captured the title in Flight B singles, sweeping past Cornell's Alyssa Zavislak 6-3, 6-0. Dallenbach advanced to the final with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Luther's Abby Landsness, while Zavislak topped Luther's Carrie Eisele by a 6-2, 6-3 score. Landsness won the all-Norse third-place match 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (4).

Flight C singles saw an all-Wartburg championship match-up pitting Claire Evans against Brita Jensen. Evans prevailed 6-3, 6-2. In an all-Simpson third-place match, Allison Anderson topped Lynae Gruber, 7-5, 6-2. Gruber was the 2008 runner-up in the flight.

In Flight A doubles, top-seeded Andrea Schupbach and Michelle Schupbach of Coe topped Luther's Fairfield and Katy Lindstrom 8-3 in final after dispatching Central's Faith Bliss and Kayla Donner 8-4 in the semifinal. Fairfield/Lindstrom advanced to the final with an 8-6 win over teammates Luther's Brynne Zinnecker and Kelsie Allen. Zinnecker/Allen beat Bliss/Donner, 8-5, for third place.

Luther's Meghan Williams and Cassandra Chalhoub capture the Flight B singles title 8-3 over Samantha DeGannes and Amanda Johnson of Cornell. Williams and Chalhoub defeated teammates Katie Patterson and Carrie Eisele 8-1 in one semifinals, while DeGannes and Johnson topped Luther's Abby Landsness and Haley Punke 8-3 in the other. Patterson/Eisele captured an all-Norse third-place match 8-3.
