271 STUDENT-ATHLETES EARN ALL-ACADEMIC RECOGNITION

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today its All-Academic Team for the Fall 2009 season. Two hundred seventy-one student-athletes from the Conference’s eight fall sports met the requirements for recognition.

To be eligible for IIAC All-Academic Team honors a student-athlete must compete at the varsity level, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and attain a 3.5 or better grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).

The Fall 2009 All-Academic Team is comprised of 107 sophomores, 88 seniors, and 76 juniors. Luther College placed a Conference-high 63 student-athletes on the Team followed by Simpson College (41 student-athletes), Wartburg College (39 student-athletes), Central College (32 student-athletes), Coe College (27 student-athletes), Cornell College (22 student-athletes), Loras College (18 student-athletes), University of Dubuque (16 student-athletes), and Buena Vista University (13 student-athletes).

Eighty-eight of the student-athletes are cross country runners, 53 women and 35 men. Fifty-four of the honorees are soccer players, 28 men and 26 women, while 55 football players were named to the Team. Rounding out the All-Academic Team are 38 volleyball players, 22 women’s tennis players and 14 women’s golfers.
