LORAS' MEJIA AND BONILLA NAMED NSCAA ALL-AMERICANS

TEN NAMED TO NSCAA ALL-NORTH REGION TEAMS

December 11, 2009

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Loras College midfielders Santiago Mejia (Sr., Cali, Colombia/Colegio Bolivar) and Miguel Bonilla (Jr., Cali, Colombia/Colegio Bolivar) are among the 42 players who have been named to the 2009 NSCAA/Performance Subaru Men's NCAA Division III All-America Team. This is Mejia's third honor, being named to the Second Team in 2007 and the Third Team last year.

In addition, ten Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) men’s soccer players were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-North Region Team announced Thursday, December 10.

Iowa Conference champion and NCAA qualifier Loras College led IIAC schools with four All-Region selections followed by Wartburg College with three and University of Dubuque with two. Luther College picked the remaning All-Region pick.

Mejia and Bonilla were each named to the First Team for the third consecutive season. The duo was joined on the 11-player First Team by Wartburg senior goalkeeper Trent Michael (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) and junior defender Luke Prater (Springfield, Mo./Kickapoo) and Dubuque junior forward Idrissa Soumaoro (Fort Stewart, Ga.). Michael was a First Team selection last season after being a Third Team pick in 2007, while Prater was a Second Team honoree a year ago.

Loras senior defender Matt Splittgerber (Marshalltown, Iowa/Marshalltown), Wartburg senior midfielder Geoff Miller (St. Louis, Mo./University), and Dubuque sophomore midfielder Ryan Zurbuchen (Fitchburg, Wis./Madison West) were named to the Second Team, while Loras senior defender Nate Minkel (Marshalltown, Iowa/Marshalltown) and Luther senior forward Adam Pyzdrowski (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) were tabbed for the Third Team.
